"Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem." The universal methodological principle, known as Okkam's razor, says "Entities are not to be multiplied above the necessary." I try to use this principle to understand Russia - if there is a more simple way to explain something, then this way should be closer to truth than a more complex one.

World Stage promotes cross-cultural understanding (and even
misunderstanding) by open exchange. Our contributors are major players in
academia: Prof. William Pinar (Director of the Centre for
Internationalization and Curriculum Studies at University of British
Columbia), Prof. David Kirshner (Dept. of Curriculum and Instruction at
LSU) and everyday people across the globe: Faiza (a 50 year old mother of
3 living in Baghdad), Afghan Warrior (located in Kabul). We are currently
sorting through submissions from bloggers in Iraq, Taiwan, Pakistan,
Russia, and Brazil, among others, which we will start posting next week.
Topics range from contemporary politics to social commentary to everyday
life, but they all have the common thread of our shared humanity and what
it means to live in this world.
We accept submissions in the body of the email (up to 5 pages) on many
different topics. Of particular interest are those writings that tie in
your situation with the rest of the world (feel free to interpret this
frame as widely as you wish). I am available to tell you more about World
